Downloading Files Directly to Drive

On Chromebooks and Windows computers, the default location for file downloads is the Downloads folder. Although these can be accessed through the File Manager app (blue folder icon in your Chrome Apps) or Windows file browser, here is a simple setting that helps you save files directly to your Drive:

  • In Chrome settings, search for "Downloads" 
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and look for the second setting from the bottom 
  • Check the box for "Always ask" when downloading files 

With this box checked you will now be prompted to choose a location (eg. save directly to Drive) and (perhaps more useful) to rename the file before saving it. This can save you a lot of time when downloading images, PDFs, etc!
