Help! I can't log in after my laptop was imaged!

There are a few extra steps necessary in order to log in after your laptop has been reimaged: 1) You must be connected to the school network the first time you log in. Make sure your wireless is ON! 2) Log in via Novell, using lastname+firstinitial.yearofgraduation) EXAMPLE: HallE.2017 Passwords have NOT changed for 10th-12th graders, but freshmen must use mmuhs2017 the first time. 3) If a second Novell screen appears, REMOVE the year of graduation and enter your password again. 4) If a third screen with "local" login appears, restart the computer and try steps 1-3 again. Once your login is successful, it will take about 5 minutes for Windows to create a new user profile for you.

How do I activate Windows?

Activating the Windows license is necessary when a new computer is built. If you get messages about activating Windows, or that Windows is “Not an authentic copy” or you are a "victim of counterfeiting," etc. then you need to activate the Windows license on your computer. If you get a message to Activate Online, do it (the license code is already installed). Otherwise:

  1. Click on the Start menu
  2. RIGHT-click on “computer”
  3. Choose “Properties” (bottom of list)
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and choose “Active Windows Now”
  5. Choose Activate Online

How can I open ".gdoc" files?

While Google Docs are technically web files, Google now allows you to "attach" and sometimes upload files from your Google Drive to email or other web services. Attached .gdoc files need to be downloadaed like other attachments, and will not open automatically in your browser. .gdoc files will only open properly in Chrome, so Chrome needs to be set as your default browser in order for the computer to open them properly: 1) Open Chrome settings (three lines in the upper right corner) 2) Scroll down to find Default Browser underneath Users 3) Set Chrome to Default
